Saburo Muraoka Elementary Military Families,
Through a partnership between Chula Vista Elementary School District, Saburo Muraoka Elementary School and the office of the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Military Community and Family Policy, The Military and Family Life Counseling Program provides confidential, non-medical, short-term, counseling services to active duty service members and their family. The non-medical counseling approach is psycho-educational, which helps children and families learn to anticipate and resolve challenges associated with the military life.
Psycho-educational groups may be facilitated by the MFLC counselor throughout the year to support military children. Beginning the week of Jan. 11, 2021, we are pleased to offer our first annual virtual group: Military Kids Club. In this group children will have the opportunity to meet the MFLC, make friends, and participate in social skills activities through games and art. Topics such communication, conflict resolution, anger management, bullying, self-esteem/self-confidence, behavioral management techniques, sibling/parental relationships, and deployment/reintegration may be discussed as needed.
Eligible children may participate who are dependents of active-duty service members, National Guard and reserve members (regardless of activation status), Coast Guard members when activated for the Navy, and Department of Defense expeditionary civilians (90 days prior to deployment through 180 days post-deployment). Children of veterans are eligible of service members 180 days past separation from the military.
If you are interested in having your child participate in the Military Kids Club group, please contact the MFLC Diana Caughlin to register at (619) 346-3318 by Mon. Jan. 11, 2021 and receive Zoom details. There is a maximum of 10 children per group and requires a virtual line of sight from the child’s guardian throughout the duration of each group. This group begins the week of Jan. 11, 2021 and ends the week of Feb. 15, 2021. Please see the group schedule below based on your child’s grade level:

Please contact the MFLC to opt your child out of group services, request family support, or to inquire further about the program.
