As you may know, the proposed CVESD Virtual Academy would provide students in Chula Vista with an independent study option as an alternative instructional strategy to meet and enhance their individual student strengths, needs, and learning styles.
The CVESD Virtual Academy is a voluntary pilot program developed in alignment with state education proposals, which assume a return to full-time in-person instruction for the 2021-22 school year. The Virtual Academy is not a stop-gap program for families reluctant about resuming in-person instruction. “Success in independent study requires motivation and a strong commitment on the part of the student and, especially for a young student, his or her parents/guardians/caregivers. It also requires sufficient academic preparation to enable the student to work independently.” (California Department of Education, 2020.
Parents/guardians must apply for enrollment during the application window, which has been extended one week. Applications to the CVESD Virtual Academy must be submitted online by 5 p.m. June 7.
