Welcome Parents

Dear Muraoka Families,

Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year at Muraoka Elementary School!  It is my honor and privilege to serve the Muraoka school community as interim principal while Dr. Mahoney is on maternity leave this quarter.

Although I am new to Muraoka, I bring a great deal of experience in the field of education.  I recently retired from the Chula Vista Elementary School District after a forty-year career, twenty-one of those years in CVESD. I was principal at Chula Vista Hills and Hilltop for seventeen years, and Executive Director at the District level for four years.

Children, families, teaching, and learning are the nearest and dearest things to my heart. I am the mother of three, and I have been gifted with two grandbabies. My greatest joy as an educator has been in the principal role, and I am very excited about this opportunity.

My primary role this quarter is to support the Muraoka staff to ensure that each student feels safe, welcome, and valued while being challenged and supported to achieve at their fullest potential.  As all students return to campus this year, the realities of COVID-19 require that schools remain especially vigilant about health and safety.  All schools will strictly adhere to the requirements of the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). New and changing requirements may necessitate changes at Muraoka, and we will strive to maintain excellent communication regarding any information that we receive. Thank you in advance for your support and understanding.

Muraoka Vision and Values:  Our Vision is to create a 21st Century inclusion school where all students are models of good character, embrace creativity, are voracious learners, and empowered to be confident and self-aware. Our namesake, Saburo Muraoka, is remembered as being a successful, hardworking leader of peace. Muraoka Elementary aims to emulate these qualities, serving as an inspiration to our community. Our goal is for staff and parents to work harmoniously to create and maintain a safe, welcoming, exceptional learning environment for all students.

Communication is key!  We will provide you information about student learning and other school information and activities via school messenger (telephone and email), our school website, Peachjar, social media pages, and parent letters/flyers. Leadership Coffee chats and ELAC meetings will be additional methods of communication.  Please see the Parent Frequently Asked Questions document.

The Muraoka staff and I eagerly anticipate welcoming your children to campus quarter!  Please help us to set your child up for success by reviewing Muraoka’s school wide expectations and reassuring them about the exciting year we have ahead of us!

Sincerely,

Lisa Parker
