September 13, 2021

Muraoka Families,

VIRTUAL PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES are being held through this Thursday, September 16. We have MINIMUM DAY dismissal all week- 1:00 for Kindergarten and 1:15 for grades 1-6. Please be sure to schedule a conference!

PLEASE COME TO OUR FIRST ELAC MEETING OF THE YEAR this Thursday, September 16 at 8:30 a.m. at the lunch arbor.

ELAC is our English Learner Advisory Committee. All parents are welcome, but the committee is especially for the parents of Muraoka English Learners. This year, we have an Impact Teacher who will provide small group support for our English Learners who need it most. Learn about the purpose of ELAC, meet our new bilingual Associate Principal, Mrs. Felicitas Rayray; our English Learner Instructional Assistant, Mrs. Marilu Garcia; and our Impact Teacher, Mr. Edel Lopez; and learn about how English Learners are supported at Muraoka.

URGENT SCHOOL FUNDING REQUEST! The majority of Muraoka’s budget allocation comes from the LCFF, or Local Control Funding Formula. The amount of money Muraoka receives is based on the income levels of our families. This information is gathered through the LCFF District Survey that was due September 6. The survey asks:

  • –  How many people are living in your home?
  • –  What is your total household monthly income? The District uses the answers to this survey to calculate how much money each school receives. Benefits for your child(ren) include:
  • –  Instructional materials
  • –  Classroom technology
  • –  Additional staffing to provide supports for students
  • –  Extended learning opportunities for students
  • –  Before and after school programs

Last year, Muraoka received funding for almost 200 students. This year, very few surveys were returned. Unless surveys are returned, Muraoka’s funding will be severely restricted. PLEASE USE THIS LINK TO ACCESS THE SURVEY THAT TAKES LESS THAN TWO MINUTES TO COMPLETE. New due date is Thursday, September 16.

The SANTA DIANA GATE is CLOSED for student and adult safety.

THE SANTA DIANA PARKING LOT IS open for STAFF PARKING ONLY.  Please drive slowly and carefully past that parking lot do NOT park, stop, or drive close to the driveway, as that is a marked as a cross walk.

There are two handicapped parking spaces in the Santa Diana lot. Please let the adults on duty know if you need to use those spaces.

EARLY ACCESS TO BREAKFAST is at the Santa Victoria gate.  That gate is open for breakfast from 7:35-7:55. At 7:55, the gate is locked.  All students can access breakfast from the front gates.

THIRD GRADE DISMISSAL is at the Santa Victoria gate.

STUDENT DROP-OFF/PICK-UP PROCEDURES: Please be very careful of pedestrians and other cars.

  • Pull your cars all the way forward before opening your car door for students.
  • NEVER back up in the zone, as that is very unsafe.
  • There is NO PARKING in the drop off/pick up area. We realize that parking is very limited. Please consider parking on the streets around the perimeter of the school and walking to meet your children.

PEDESTRIANS (students and adults) SHOULD ALWAYS USE CROSSWALKS, and never walk through the parking lot. Thank you!

WE NOW NEED ONLY ONE MORE PARENT SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL MEMBER! We currently have one nominee. SSC helps to create and monitor the Single Site Plan for Student Achievement, which is our school academic master plan!  Please email Mrs. Parker, Mrs. Rayray, or Mrs. Abitia if you are interested in serving on this important committee!

MURAOKA COVID REPORTING CHANGE- To date, Muraoka has had a total of 34 COVID cases. This is just over 3% of our student population. There were 5 new cases reported last week! We are grateful that to our knowledge, none of our students have been seriously ill. We continue to work diligently to ensure mask-wearing, monitor possible COVID symptoms, and notify and follow up with COVID cases and close contacts. Thank you for your continued support with keeping your children at home if they have any COVID symptoms and letting the office know the reason for your children’s absences.  Please continue to contact us with any COVID-related questions. REMINDER OF IMPORTANT MASK MANDATES: The Chula Vista Elementary Board of Education approved the following changes to the COVID-19 Prevention Plan, effective two weeks ago:

PARENTS and other adults MUST always WEAR MASKS ON ALL DISTRICT PROPERTY, which includes the parking lot and while waiting at the gates before and after school.  Administrators are expected to enforce these new mandates.

STUDENTS must wear MASKS OUTDOORS unless they are playing or eating.  This means that students must wear masks in their morning lines and from their lines to recess until they begin playing.  They must now wear masks from the time teachers pick them up on the playground instead of waiting until entering the building.  Students must wear masks in the lunch lines and put them back on after eating.

Thank you in advance for ensuring that you and your children follow these mandates.

For your information, STAFF- MUST ALSO WEAR MASKS OUTDOORS as well as indoors, whether vaccinated or not, anywhere on District property- including the parking lot. The current expectation is that staff members wear masks even when holding virtual conferences.

VIRTUAL PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES will be held this Thursday, September 9 through next Thursday, September 16.  Those will be MINIMUM DAYS- dismissal at 1:00 for kindergarten and 1:15 for grades 1-6.  It is expected that teachers hold a conference for each child. Please be sure to schedule a conference!

PARENT VOLUNTEERS are invited to assist with traffic in the morning and afternoon. PARENT VOLUNTEERS are also invited to assist teachers before and after school when students are not present. Volunteers need to show proof of COVID vaccination and negative TB test; they also need to have a fingerprint/background clearance through the County, which costs $74. Please contact our Secretary, Valeria Abitia, or your child’s teacher if you are interested in volunteering. We look forward to expanding parent volunteer opportunities in the future. ***Volunteers must schedule through the front office for specific duties on specific dates and times. Please do NOT serve in any volunteer capacity without an explicit schedule and approval. Thank you!
