Muraoka Families,

We hope that you had a wonderful week with family and loved ones. The next three weeks before Winter Break will certainly be busy with Apex Fun Run, Student Council Elections and Matsuri Awards. Please read below for additional details and do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.

New News:

Momonga Monday: We are looking forward to Momonga Monday! We encourage students and staff to wear Momonga spirit wear or our school colors. We will start our Blacktop assembly at 8:15 each Monday.

Apex Fun Run: We are very excited to bring back one of the biggest fundraisers of the school year! For the next two weeks, students will receive leadership and character education lessons while raising money for Muraoka. Our Fun Run will take place on December 9^th. Please be on the lookout for pledge kits that will be coming home on November 30^th.

New Covid Testing Hours: EFFECTIVE MONDAY, NOVEMBER 29, Chula Vista Elementary School District is offering free COVID-19 testing for students and staff at the following time and locations:

Education Services and Support Center at 84 East J Street, Chula Vista 91910

• Monday – Thursday 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM (line closes to walk ups at 3:40 PM)
• Friday 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM (line closes to walk ups at 3:40 PM)

Hedenkamp Elementary School at 930 East Palomar Street, Chula Vista 91913

• Monday – Thursday 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM (line closes to walk ups at 2:30 PM)
• Friday 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM (line closes to walk ups at 2:30 PM)

Safety Patrol and Student Council: Both 5^th and 6^th grade students are eligible for Safety Patrol and Student Council. Student Council candidates can begin putting up posters on Monday 11/29. Candidate speeches and voting (only 5^th and 6^th grade students are eligible to vote) will take place on Friday 12/3.

Covid Update: Muraoka had 2 new cases reported the last week prior to break. To date, Muraoka has had a total of 40 positive COVID cases. Thank you for your continued support with keeping your children at home if they have any COVID symptoms and letting the office know the reason for your children’s absences.  Please continue to contact us with any COVID-related questions. FEDERAL SURVEY CARDS Federal Survey Cards went home on Friday, November 5, 2021.  Please consider filling out these forms and returning them to the school office.  If you make any corrections on the card, you will need to initial before returning it to school. Our school funding is impacted by the number of completed surveys turned into the school, your assistant with the forms is greatly appreciated.

Office visits to drop off personal items: We kindly ask that you DO NOT BRING LUNCHES, WATER BOTTLES, OR OTHER ITEMS TO THE SCHOOL OFFICE during the school day. Unfortunately, we have had an overwhelming number of parents visiting the office to deliver personal items and we are unable to accommodate these requests.

It is a great week to be a Momonga! Please read below for this week’s news.

New News:

Momonga Monday: We are looking forward to our very first Momonga Monday! We are hoping Momonga Monday Blacktop Assemblies will be a great way to build school spirit and set the tone for a positive week, we encourage students and staff to wear Momonga spirit wear or our school colors. We will start our Blacktop assembly at 8:15 each Monday.

Safety Patrol and Student Council: We are so excited to get student led groups up and running at Muraoka. Both 5^th and 6^th grade students are eligible for Safety Patrol and Student Council. Applications for both programs will be available in the front office after school beginning on 11/15.

Solar Project: We are happy to announce that construction is complete! Muraoka families should notice a decrease in congestion. Please continue to be mindful when parking on the street- we kindly ask that you do not block the driveways/garages of our Muraoka neighbors.

Veterans Day observed:  Thank you to all our military families and Veteran’s for their service. Don’t forget that there is NO SCHOOL on Thursday, November 11, 2021.  Students return for classes on Friday, November 12, 2021.

Vaccine Clinic: Are you interested in COVID vaccination? Chula Vista Elementary School District has a free walk-in vaccine clinic on Nov. 11. No appointment necessary. The free vaccine clinic is located nearby at Rogers Elementary (500 E Naples Street) from 11:00-5:00 p.m.

BAC Representative Muraoka needs a representative to the District’s Budget Advisory Committee (BAC). The parent representative will learn about school and District budget processes and provide valuable input on District budget priorities. The parent is Muraoka’s site’s voice on the district’s budget planning and will report information back to our School Site Council. They will help keep our school community updated on District budget activities and the impact on our school site budget. Please contact the school office or email gina.mazeau@cvesd.org if you are willing to be Muraoka’s representative to the District BAC. The next BAC meeting is a virtual meeting. It will be held on Wednesday, November 10, 2021

PTO News: New Muraoka t-shirt preorders are in and will be delivered to student classrooms. We will no longer accept preorders. Thank you to the parents and school staff that placed an order.

Thank you to the school, teachers, parents, and community for making our book fair a great success. We are happy to announce the classroom that received the most donated books is Sra. Beltran’s 5th grade Dual Immersion. Their class will be able to receive a PTO sponsored party. Information will be forwarded to the teacher.

PTO has a treasurer nomination. Voting will take place soon.

PTO Membership Drive has been extended until 05 November. If interested in becoming a member please reach out to muraokapto@gmail.com for registration information. No commitment is necessary. The class with the most registrations will win a class reward.

Parent Volunteers: Can you commit to 4-6 hours per week? If so, we need you! Parent volunteers are an important element in creating a successful and enriching school environment. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact the front office for requirements.

Garden Bud Club: Will meet in the MPR after school on Thursdays beginning 11/4. The first meeting will be an all-student Garden Bud Assembly to establish expectations.

There is an official permission slip that must be signed and returned to attend on Thursday.  It will be sent with your child this week.

Kickball Team: We had a great turnout at Kickball tryouts last week! Additional information is needed in order to help with team selection. If your 5^th or 6^th grade student is still interested in the team, please sign, and return the permission slip as soon as possible.  These permission slips can be picked up with Mr. Lopez
