As we enter our 4^th school week of 2022, we want to take the time to thank you for your continued support and flexibility as our reporting and contact tracing procedures were updated in response to the surge in cases our district was experiencing. We continue to hope that all our families are safe and healthy.

PCR COVID Testing Kiosks:

CVESD has opened 3 new testing sites for PCR tests. They are in the school parking lots of Clearview Elementary, Castle Park Elementary and Eastlake Elementary. The hours are 10am-6pm and there is a 24 hour turn around for results.

Home Test or Outside Facility Results:

Positive test results should be sent to melina.cardenas@cvesd.org if students were NOT tested at one of CVESD’s designated testing sites.

Kids Heart Challenge:

Muraoka has heart! Join us in learning about heart health and raising funds to protect all hearts- especially other kids! Through fun activities we’ll discover ways to take care of our hearts and brains while practicing kindness, gratitude and learning ways to de-stress. Plus, we have the chance to earn PE equipment for our school! We have already raised $1245! Our top fundraisers get to slime Mrs. Rayray and Mrs. Mazeau on Friday, 2/4.

Our bulletin this week is quite lengthy as we are including two very important district emails regarding the shift from contact tracing to group tracing and weekly testing through COVID Clinic. Please be sure to read for the new protocols for COVID -19 exposure. After reading the new guidelines, please reach out to COVTEST4@cvesd.org for general questions.

Dear CVESD Staff and Families:

Over these past few weeks, the CDPH and San Diego County provided multiple updates to COVID guidelines for schools.

One of the most significant changes applies to if your child is exposed to a positive COVID case at school. There is an adjustment, effective immediately, to the contact tracing process at schools called group-tracing.

The new group-tracing approach to students exposed to a positive COVID case at school allows for a quicker and broader response through prompt notification, testing, and isolation protocols. Anyone who spent more than a cumulative total of 15 minutes (within 24 hours) in shared indoor airspace (e.g., for example, an entire classroom or an entire athletic team during practice) will receive an email notification. Because being exposed to somebody with COVID does not necessarily mean that your child will become infected, public health says your child may remain in school if you receive this notification, unless they develop symptoms or test positive. In addition to wearing a mask and monitoring for symptoms, it is required your child get tested within 3-5 days after the last contact with the positive individual. Proof of a negative test does not need to be submitted in this case. Any positive results should be reported to your child’s school immediately.

This group-tracing strategy also allows for schools to continue to provide safe in-person instruction without excessive quarantining for students and without tying up valuable staff time to undertake intense (and often protracted) contact tracing processes to try to identify individual students who were within a specified radius of someone infected.

What Do You Do When You Receive an Exposure Letter?
According to the updated San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) Decision Tree, your child must test, regardless of vaccination status or prior COVID-19 infection, at least one time between days 3-5 from the last date of exposure on the letter/email. You must report only positive test results to the school site: melina.cardenas@cvesd.org and betsabeth.careaga@cvesd.org.

What If I Don’t Want My Child to Test?Parents can opt-out of the group tracing. The student will be excluded from school and extracurricular activities for 10 days per County of San Diego guidance.

Which Test Should I Take?
PCR or antigen are both acceptable for group contact testing, but it is highly recommended that individuals who have had a history of testing positive for COVID-19 in the last 90 days use an antigen test. Home antigen tests are allowed.

Staff and Preschool will continue to use close-contact notifications

COVID Clinic- Weekly COVID testing on Campus

We are excited to share a new testing program that will contribute to the safety and health of our learning community.  You should have received an email from COVID Clinic. This is not spam. This is a consent form to sign your child up for weekly testing. This weekly testing will be provided in your student’s classroom by licensed health care professionals. This test will allow us to ensure that our students, staff, and community are safe and healthy. We will keep you up to date with information regarding start date as that information becomes available.

La PCR o el antígeno son aceptables para las pruebas de contacto grupales, pero se recomienda encarecidamente que las personas que han tenido antecedentes de haber dado positivo por COVID-19 en los últimos 90 días usen una prueba de antígenos. Se permiten las pruebas caseras de antígenos.

Clínica COVID: pruebas semanales de COVID en el campus

If your child has been vaccinated for COVID 19, we need their vaccination card on file. This will impact whether your child must quarantine in a close contact or household exposure situation.

Kindergarten Drop Off:

Kindergarten drop-off is hand to hand. An adult must wait with student until the teacher has picked up the class at 8:15. There are no exceptions. Please email us if you have any questions.

Traffic:

Our Muraoka Safety patrol will be undergoing training very soon. Let’s all do our part by abiding by safety protocols in place at Muraoka.

1. Please avoid parking or driving through the bus loop.
2. Please do not use the staff parking lot for pick up or drop off
3. Please only use designated cross walks to cross the street
4. Do not leave your vehicle unattended in red or yellow zones

We loved welcoming our Momongas back to school yesterday! They bring us so much joy! Thank you for entrusting us with your wonderful children!

As you know, there has been an increase in positive cases in our county.  We need your help ensuring we are able to reduce the spread.  Please remind your students to wear a mask that fits snuggly around their nose and mouth at all times unless they are actively eating, drinking, or playing/exercising outside.  Also, remind them to wash or sanitize hands frequently and to physically distance from others when possible.  Finally, please be sure to keep your child at home if they have any COVID 19 symptoms.

If your child tested positive for COVID 19 using an at home test kit or at an outside location (county testing site or medical office), please keep your child at home and notify us.  Please refer to the letter below for specific instructions on the notification process.

Muraoka Families,

We hope that our Muraoka families enjoyed winter break. We look forward to welcoming our Momongas back to school safely on Tuesday, January 11^th for a minimum day. Please note that Kindergarten will be released at 1 pm and 1^st-6^th grade will release at 1:15pm. Please read below for important updates regarding our Home Testing Kits and new arrival and dismissal procedures.

At Home Testing Kit Distribution:

Thank you to over 800 families who came to pick up at home testing kits as of 5:30pm. Please be sure to test your child today, January 10^th. If your child tests negative, no further action is needed, please send your child to school as you normally would.

Arrival and Dismissal Gate Updates:

With our Solar Panel Project complete, we are returning to our original arrival and dismissal procedures. We will no longer be using the emergency vehicle entrance on Santa Victoria for breakfast entrance or Third Grade dismissal. This was meant to be a temporary solution during the Solar Project construction. Please read below for updated breakfast and 3^rd grade release procedures.

Arrival Updates:

Breakfast and YMCA Entrance:

We are returning to enter through the north gate on Santa Diana Rd for breakfast and YMCA pick up and drop off.  Gate will open at 7:35 for breakfast. Students may only use this entrance at 7:35 if they are eating breakfast. They will remain seated in the lunch arbor until they are dismissed to their line at 7:55. YMCA will return to picking up and dropping off through the north gate as well.

Dismissal Updates:

3^rd grade students will no longer dismiss from the emergency vehicle entrance on Santa Victoria. 3^rd grade will be brought to the front of the school.

In any grade, except for kindergarten, if your child(ren) walk(s) home independently and it is more convenient for them to exit through the north gate on Santa Diana, they are welcome to do so. It is important that all Muraoka Families revisit pick up procedures and ensure there is an established an after-school meeting location. If your child walks home, please remind them to leave campus quickly and walk straight home.

Covid -19 Update Town Hall Meeting with Special Guest, Kelly Motadel M.D.

The Chula Vista Elementary School District will host a Virtual Town Hall on the current state of COVID-19 at 6 p.m. on Thursday, January 13 with Dr. Kelly Motadel. Dr. Motadel is the Child Health Officer for the County of San Diego. She plays a critical role in planning and providing medical direction to Child Welfare Services, First 5 San Diego, and other county programs related to children’s health. Actualizaciones de la puerta de llegada y salida:

Con nuestro proyecto de panel solar completo, estamos regresando a nuestros procedimientos originales de llegada y salida. El Distrito Escolar Primario de Chula Vista organizará un Ayuntamiento virtual sobre el estado actual de COVID-19 a las 6 p. m. el jueves 13 de enero con la Dra. Kelly Motadel. El Dr. Motodel es el Oficial de Salud Infantil del Condado de San Diego. Muraoka Families,
We are ready to welcome our Momongas back to school safely on Tuesday, January 11th, for a minimum day!

In order to welcome our students back while keeping our school community safe, we are strongly encouraging all Muraoka students (K-6) to take a Covid test on Monday January 10th. To ensure that every Muroaka student (K-6) has this opportunity, we are distributing one test kit to every Muraoka student on Monday, January 10th. For example, if you have 3 students at Muroaka, you will receive 3 kits.

Every CVESD student will have the opportunity to pick up testing kits on January 10th but must pick up the kit at the school they attend. Muraoka will only be distributing kits to Muraoka students.

Please note that there are two options for pick up:
WALK UP: Line will begin in front of the school office near the tree and extend toward Santa Victoria Rd. Please wear a mask and physically distance.
DRIVE UP: Cars may enter through the bus loop on Santa Diana Rd and will exit on Santa Alexia Ave. Please wear a mask during pick up.

The times of distribution were previously outlined in a SchoolMessenger that was sent on Thursday, January 6th and were as follows:
Last names A-L: 9:30-11:30 am
Last names M-Z: 1:00-3:00 pm
If you are not able to pick up at your designated time, you can also pick up from 5-6pm.
