Parent Bulletin 4/25-4/29

Muraoka Families,

We are heading into our last week of April with plenty happening on campus. As we celebrate The Month of the Military Child, we are also preparing for State and Local Measures testing. Please read below for more information and let’s make it a great week!

Month of the Military Child Events:

Our weekly Blacktop Assembly has been moved to Tuesday (4/26) where students will enjoy the Navy Brass Band in honor of The Month of the Military Child. Be sure to Purple Up! for this awesome event.

In addition, we are proud to host our Military connected families on campus for Breakfast and Books on Friday, April 29th, at 7:30 am. All students and staff are invited to wear red, white, and blue on Friday, 4/29, in honor of our military connected students.

New Military Family Life Counselor:

We are very proud to introduce Ms. Daniella Esparza, as our new Military Family Life Counselor (MFLAC). Muraoka has the highest percentage of military connected students in CVESD and we are so fortunate to have this added support on campus.

State and Local Measures Testing:

At our ELAC meeting on Thursday, April 21, we presented information about upcoming State and Local Measures testing. We are including the presentation Testing Presentation Parents for all families to preview.

Testing Tips:

  • Arrive on time- Testing will begin promptly at the start of the school day
  • Eat a healthy breakfast on campus or at home- start the day with a meal that includes healthy energy boosting foods such as eggs or whole wheat toast!
  • Get a good night’s rest- at least 8-10 hours of sleep will prepare students to do their best!
  • Think positive thoughts-you can encourage your child to take slow deep breaths and think of something that makes them happy if they start to feel stressed during the test.
  • Do your best- Our Momongas will do great! Encourage your child to do their best to show what they know and that they are ready!

Muraoka Families,

Our staff and students had a fantastic first week back on campus after our Spring Break!  It was wonderful to see all our students ready to learn. We started our week with expectations assemblies for each grade level where we reviewed Muraoka expectations and reviewed topics such as the wellness policy, cell phone policy (3rd-6th) and social media use (grades 4-6). Feel free to ask your student about any of these topics. Tomorrow, we will kick off the week with our Momonga Monday blacktop assembly so be sure to wear your spirit gear!

Change in Masking Requirements – Please Read

On Wednesday, March 9th, the CVESD Board of Education voted to make a change to the requirement of indoor masking for all on school campuses.  Effective March 21st, indoor masking is now encouraged, but not required for both adults and students.  As face masks are now strongly recommended for students and staff, but not required, We want to remind our students and community members the importance of being kind and respectful towards each other, as some students and staff may decide to continue wearing masks and some may not. No student or staff member should be made to feel uncomfortable for their choice of whether or not to wear a mask now that the guidance has changed.
Masks will still be available, should a staff member or student want one, but we will not be asking students if they want to wear a mask.  If your family is choosing to continue masking and your child forgets their mask, please let your child know that they can ask a staff member for one and we will be able to provide it for them.
As always, the safety of our community is of utmost importance and we will continue to monitor federal, state and local guidelines, adjusting when needed. Thank you for your support as we enter this next chapter of the pandemic.
