Weekly Bulletin 8/29

Muraoka Families,

The highlight of the week was certainly the APEX Fun Run on Thursday! Thank you to all our families and donors for making it so memorable for our Momongas! Our final numbers are not in, but it is estimated that we raised over 130,000 dollars, incredible! We appreciate all your support with our biggest fundraiser of the school year. Please read our parent bulletin carefully as we have included some important reminders.

Visits and Phone Calls to Front Office:

Our front office staff is incredibly busy servicing the families’ of 1115 students. We love our Momonga community but would like to remind you to limit your visits and calls to essential business only. Please refer to our SchoolDojo, ClassDojo or Muraoka blog for information on release times, schedules, and upcoming events. Thank you in advance for sending your child to school with their lunch/snack/water in hand as we do not have the staff to deliver lunches or water bottles to classrooms throughout the day.

Early release:

We receive daily requests for early release of students. We ask that you try to schedule appointments after school when possible and remember that if your child is being pulled out of school early, their absence is unexcused unless accompanied by a doctor’s note.

Traffic and Safety

It takes all our entire community to help uphold the safety expectations.  When we do not, it compromises the safety of everyone, but most importantly, the safety of our students.  If you are interested in volunteering to help with traffic control, please email felicitas.rayray@cvesd.org

Here are a few important reminders:

  • Walk to school if you can!
  • Muraoka has only ONE drop off loop: the southern parking lot directly in front of the front office.
  • Red Curbs – “as required under California Vehicle Code Section 21458(a)(1), a curb painted red shall indicate no stopping, standing, or parking whether the vehicle is attended or unattended.”
  • Yellow curbs are for loading and unloading only – cars should not be parked and left unattended.  If you are on a yellow curb, you should be in your vehicle.
  • Use crosswalks for crossing the street and parking lot.
  • When dropping students off, please be sure that they exit the vehicle on the right so that they get out directly onto the sidewalk closest to the school building.
  • Follow traffic patterns and do not double park along parking spaces.

Thank you for your help in keeping our parking lot and neighbor safe, which ultimately keeps our students safe.

Sports Teams @ Muraoka:

Are you interested in coaching a sport at Muraoka? We are lucky to be a part of the largest Elementary Intramural Sports Lleague in the nation! These are the sports offered this fall that would compete against other CVESD schools:

  • Girls and Boys Volleyball
  • Co-ed Kickball
  • Co-ed Flag Football

Please email Mrs. Rayray at felicitas.rayray@cvesd.org by September 2nd, 2022 if you are interested in coaching. The season for these 3 sports begins October 13, 2022.

Weekly Bulletin 8/21

Muraoka Families,

We are so thrilled to be welcoming back Mrs. Mazeau as the principal of Muraoka. She was greatly missed but we know that she will be so proud of all that we have accomplished the first five weeks of school. Mrs. Rayray will return to being the very proud Associate Principal of Muraoka and we are thankful for the time that Mrs. Callado supported our wonderful school community.

APEX Fun Run:

We are halfway to our 100k goal! Please continue to share your student’s fundraising page as every donation, big or small, counts! All students will receive an Apex dry fit shirt, so please remember to log in and select the shirt size for your student. We are thankful for your commitment to creating a brand-new library space for student and community use at Muraoka. We are incredibly excited to start stocking the space with new books for our Momongas.

Volunteers for APEX:

Each classroom teacher will designate 2 parent volunteers to support this event (hydration stations and shirt marking). These parent volunteers must be cleared prior to our event on Thursday. Unfortunately, only designated parent volunteers, staff and students will be allowed on campus for this event. The event will take place on the southern lawn and all other spectators may watch from the street side of the fencing along Santa Victoria Rd. Thank you for your understanding as we are unable to accommodate any additional spectators on our campus.

Please do not forget sunscreen and water for your student!

Volunteers will support their grade level based on the schedule below:

8:25-9:10 Kindergarten

9:15-10:00 1st and 2nd

10:05-10:50 3rd and 4th

10:55-11:40 5th and 6th

Morning Arrival:

We have many students who are arriving to school prior to 7:35 am. This is a friendly reminder that our breakfast gate does not open until 7:35 and students should NOT arrive prior to this as we have no supervision. If your child is not eating breakfast on campus, they should arrive no earlier than 7:55am. Thank you for your cooperation as we continue to make the safety of our students a priority.

CVESD Cell Phone Policy:

As stated in our parent handbook, the CVESD cell phone policy requires students to turn off and store cell phones as soon as they arrive on campus. There are no exceptions. Cell phones that are seen out will be stored and returned to students at the end of the day. Watches must only tell the time. All other features on the watch must be deactivated. Thank you for supporting our District cell phone policy.

Muraoka Families,

This is a friendly reminder that we have 3 different parent meetings this Thursday, August 18th. This will be an opportunity to meet your Interim Principal, Mrs. Rayray and Interim Associate Principal, Mrs. Callado as well as meet other parents and learn more about Muraoka! Please read below for a short description of each meeting.

1. ELAC (English Learner Advisory Committee) 8/18 at 8:30 am in MPR:

This meeting is especially for parents of English Learners but all families are welcome as we discuss topics that are relevant to all Muraoka families. This month, we will give a short introduction to ELAC as well as share what Social Emotional Learning looks like at Muraoka.

Parent Bulletin 8/14

Muraoka Families,

It is hard to believe that we are starting our 5th week of the quarter! Our Momongas are working hard to finish their beginning of the year assessments and learn the routines and procedures of their new grade. We are so proud of them! Please read carefully for this week’s important announcements.

Morning Arrival:

Thank you for exiting campus quickly at our 8:15 bell. Thanks to you we have been able to lock the gates approximately 3 minutes after the bell has rung. This is impressive considering the size of our school. Please continue to keep the following in mind:

  • Please opt to send an email or dojo message to the classroom teacher if there is something that needs to be communicated at the start of the day.
  • Please allow only the teacher to walk students into the building
  • Breakfast: Only Muraoka students should sit in the arbor to enjoy our school breakfast. Please stand around the perimeter of the lunch arbor if you are accompanying your child during this time.

Campus Clinic

Campus Clinic, operated by COVID Clinic, is the organization that will be providing testing for students and staff here on campus each Wednesday at Muraoka Elementary.

Optional testing will take place every Wednesday.  Campus Clinic staff will be on campus and will test only students and staff who have consent to be tested.  PCR tests will be used, and results are shared with parent(s) via email within 24-48 hours.  If your child has tested positive within the last 90 days, PCR tests are NOT recommended because they can pick up small fragments of the virus.  Antigen testing is not available through Campus Clinic yet.  If that changes, we will let our community know.

If you did not receive an email from Campus Clinic and want to have your child participate, please email support@campusclinic.orgThey will be able to assist you with registration.  Our front office does not handle registration for testing.   Again, this is optional.

APEX Fun Run:

Apex Leadership co. is our biggest fundraiser effort of the school year. Apex combines fitness, fundraising and leadership into a united event that will build student character and raise funds for our school. Please be on the lookout for pledge packets on August 15th. The fundraiser culminates with a fun-run on August 26th for grades K-6. Each classroom teacher will be looking for 2 parent volunteers to help on the day of the event. Approved volunteers, staff and students will be the only people this event will be able to accommodate. Please wait for more information through your classroom teacher.
