Weekly Bulletin January 30th

Muraoka Families,

We hope our Momongas had a wonderful weekend and are ready for the week! Rain in the forecast means that we will not be able to have our Momonga Monday Blacktop Assembly. If your student was scheduled to receive the Model Momonga Award, please join us at our next Momonga Monday Assembly on February 6th to honor your student.

Rainy Day Protocols:

Arrival: This is a friendly reminder that on rainy days, ALL students eat breakfast in the MPR, then, at 8am, we release 3rd-6th students directly to their classrooms while K-2 students are directed to the Innovation Center.

Dismissal: In the event of rain upon dismissal, Kindergarten will be released from the Innovation Center. Now that parents are on campus for dismissal, all student 1st-6th will be released as usual.

Arriving to School On Time:

Did you know your child’s best learning begins at the start of the school day? Ensure your child has proper rest and arrives at school on time every single day. Every minute of learning counts. We love to see all our Momongas on campus, ready to learn on the blacktop by 8:10 am.

 Weekly Covid Date Change:

If your child is currently participating in our weekly testing through Campus Clinic, please note that the date of testing has changed from Wednesday to Friday. Students will no longer be tested each Wednesday and instead will be tested on Friday. Thank you for your understanding with this change and we are excited to be able to continue with this preventative measure to stop the spread of the virus.

If you are interested in signing your child up for testing, please register here: https://campusclinic.org/

  • Please allow students to eat independently in lunch arbor, parents can stand near fence
  • Please line up behind student lines to keep students visible and to give teachers direct access to their students
  • Please send teachers emails or dojo messages and limit conversations with the teacher as this allows them to return to class quickly to begin their instructional day
  • Please say goodbye to your child at the line and allow only the teacher to lead students to the building
  • Please leave all pets at home
  • Please exit campus as quickly as possible, preferably at first bell, 8:10 am (with the exception of Kindergarten)

Message from our Library Tech, Mrs. Heather Haas:

We are excited to announce that our Momongas will now be able to use the Accelerated Reader (AR) program!

AR is a computer-based program that helps teachers track students’ independent practice and progress with reading. Your child picks a book at his own level and reads it at their own pace. Once finished, your child will be able to take a Reading Practice Quiz at school, on the computer. Passing the quiz is an indication that your child understood what was read.

We encourage you and your students to go to www.arbookfind.com when choosing books from your home or the public library to see if they have AR quizzes available. You can search for titles, authors, or books that meet specific criteria, such as books in Spanish. No login is required.

Reach our to our Library Tech, Mrs. Haas (heather.haas@cvesd.org), if you have any questions.

Happy reading, Momongas!

YMCA Annual Campaign:

Please consider donating to the YMCA’s annual campaign! Every gift makes an incredible difference! Please feel free to share with any of your friends or family as well. Our goal is $2,000.00 and our fundraiser ends March 14. Thank you for not only supporting our efforts to raise funds for the Y, but also giving back to your community! We appreciate you!

Weekly Bulletin 1/16-1/20

Muraoka Families,

We hope that our Muraoka families stayed safe and warm on this very wet weekend! Our 3rd quarter is off to a great start and our families are adapting well to our new dismissal procedures. We hope that you have found these procedures to ease some of the congestion we experience at pick up. Muraoka families have done a wonderful job of vacating our campus quickly after connecting with their students. We continue to ask that students refrain from using the play structure after school.  Thank you and have a wonderful week!

Mrs. Mazeau and Mrs. Rayray

TK/K Registration Town Hall Meeting

Do you have a child at home ready to enroll in Kindergarten or TK for the 23-24 school year? If so, please see flyers below for an informational meeting regarding TK and Kindergarten registration. Student Absences Excused vs Unexcused:

All the absences listed in the graphic are excused absences.  Any other reason would be considered unexcused.  Any student that misses 10% of their school year is considered chronically absent.  In the coming weeks, we will be reaching out to families whose child/children have missed 10% or more of the school year to see how we can work together to improve their attendance.

Just a reminder that school starts at 8:15am each morning and students can arrive on campus at 7:35 for breakfast only.  All students on campus prior to 7:55 must be eating breakfast in the lunch arbor.

ELAC Meeting: Please join us this Thursday, January 19th @ 8:30 am for a coffee chat sponsored by ELAC. The topic of the presentation will be around our upcoming ELPAC testing with strategies and resources that can be used at home! Please join us as there is always an opportunity to ask general questions around other topics. Hope to see you there!

SSC Meeting: Please join us this Thursday, January 19th @ 3:00pm for our School Site Council Meeting. We will be reviewing midyear data from our most recent school wide diagnostic exams.

This is Us Yearbook Contest for 4th-6th grades:

This year, all Muraoka staff and students have engaged in learning and activities that focus on who we are. Each classroom has a wall dedicated to this learning and we have loved reading poems, family recipes and seeing your pictures. This is Us will be the theme for our yearbook cover as we continue to identify our differences and learning to viewing these differences as strengths. Please see the details of the contest in the flyer

New Dismissal Procedures

Muraoka Families,

Prior to our Winter Break, we mentioned in our Weekly Bulletin that there would be some modifications to our dismissal procedures to help ease foot traffic in front of the school. We are re-sending those procedures with some minor edits. Thank you for all that you do on a daily basis to keep our large population of students safe! We appreciate you!

Mrs. Mazeau and Mrs. Rayray

New Dismissal Procedures for 2023:

We are aware of the congestion our families experience during our daily dismissal. Beginning on January 10, 2023, you will experience some changes to 1st-6th grade dismissal procedures in hopes of mitigating some of the foot traffic in the front of the school. Please note that NO changes will be made to kindergarten dismissal. Kindergarten dismissal will remain the same as kindergarten requires a hand-to-hand release.  Here are some changes you will see on January 10, 2023, for students in grades 1st-6th:

  1. Gates will open after kindergarten dismissal but prior to 1st-6th grade dismissal. This will allow our families to walk onto campus to meet their student in a predesignated area selected by you (i.e., outside of building, benches, wall ball courts, play structure, side gate, front of school, car loop etc.)
  2. At 2:45, teachers in grades 1st-6th will dismiss students from the building but will NOT be walking students to the gate.
  3. Students are responsible for walking themselves to their designated pick-up area. For some, it may be straight to the car loop, for others, it may be the tree in front of the main gate. Parents may also wait near the building that their child will be released from but please note that there will not be any hand-to-hand release as this is only required for kindergarten students.
  4. There will be no changes for students who get picked up by car. Students who get picked up by car will proceed straight to the car loop after dismissal from their building.
  5. There will be no changes for students who walk home. Students who walk home will proceed directly off campus after dismissal from their building.
  6. ALL students and families are expected to proceed off campus as soon as pick up takes place. Unfortunately, there will not be any opportunities for students or families to linger on campus, no opportunities to stay and play on the playground, play structure, wall bar court etc.
  7. An announcement will be made at 3 pm directing all students remaining on campus to the front office. Identification is required when picking up front the front office.
  8. Please note that bicycles, scooters, skateboards, or pets cannot be brought onto campus at any time.
  9. ALL PETS must remain on the perimeter of Santa Alexia, Santa Diana, and Santa Victoria. Thank you for your cooperation as this is the pet protocol followed by all CVESD schools.

Thank you in advance for your daily support and compliance. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.

Mrs. Mazeau and Mrs. Rayray
