Scholastic Book Fair

Our Scholastic Book Fair starts Monday!!! The book fair runs from 9/12 through 9/16. Classes will have an opportunity to purchase when their classes visit, after school Monday- Tuesday until 3:30, and Wednesday at our Family Event! Easiest and most convenient way to shop at the fair is with an EWALLET!

Momongas mark your calendar: Wednesday, September 14th from 5 – 7 p.m.! All families are welcome to visit our book fair! There will be food, games, raffle baskets, merchandise, and so much more will be happening! Hope to see you there!

Every minute counts when students are at school. This year we are working on improving attendance for all our students. Let’s help all our Momongas build a habit of good attendance early to set them up for success as they move into middle school and high school. Review our Attendance Pro Tips provided:

  • Make sure students come to school well rested with a good night’s sleep.
  • Allow plenty of time to get ready, get out the door, and transition to school.
  • Have clothes and shoes ready and homework in the backpack the night before.
  • Call the school for each day of illness or injury.
  • Bring doctor notes to the school office the day after an appointment.
  • Respond to school messages about your student’s attendance.
  • Talk with the teacher and principal if your student has concerns about attending school.

Learn more about chronic absenteeism and truancy here

We receive frequent requests for early release of students. We ask that you try to schedule appointments after school when possible and remember that if your child is being pulled out of school early, their absence is unexcused unless accompanied by a doctor’s note.

We will host our School Site Council and English Learner Advisory Committee meetings on Thursday, September 15.  Our ELAC meeting takes place at 8:30 am and our SSC meeting  takes place at 3;00 pm.  Both meetings will be held on campus.  We will ask for approval of our Single Plan for Student Achievement and our Comprehensive School Safety Plan. We will have an opportunity for all families and staff to provide input on both plans before any approval. All are welcome to attend! We hope you can join us!

Coaches Needed

We are looking for coaches to provide 4th-6th Muraoka students the opportunity to participate in CVESD co-ed volleyball or flag football league. The leagues for these sports run October – December. If you are interested in being a volunteer coach, please contact Mrs. Rayray by September 9.  If we can secure coaches, then notification about trying out will be sent out to families in grades 4th-6th..

Traffic and Safety:

We recently met with CVESD’s Emergency Preparedness and Security Manager regarding the traffic concerns surrounding Muraoka. We are working on putting a plan in place that includes School Resource Officer presence on campus, Student Safety Patrol and Traffic Parent volunteers. Please reach out to Mrs. Mazeau or Mrs. Rayray if you can volunteer before or after school 1-5 days a week.

Here are the most critical reminders for this week:

  • Red Curbs – “as required under California Vehicle Code Section 21458(a)(1), a curb painted red shall indicate no stopping, standing, or parking whether the vehicle is attended or unattended.”
  • Yellow curbs are for loading and unloading only – cars should not be parked and left unattended.  If you are on a yellow curb, you should be in your vehicle.
  • Use crosswalks for crossing the street and parking lot.
  • When dropping students off, please be sure that they exit the vehicle on the right so that they get out directly onto the sidewalk closest to the school building.
  • Follow traffic patterns and do not double park along parking spaces

It is important we be courteous and safe during these times, patience in understanding the traffic patterns and wait time during before and after-school is greatly appreciated. Remember, our children watch our example, so please always be safe and respectful. Our goal is to always keep all Momongas safe!

Fall break will start on Monday, September 26 and continue through October 10.  School resumes on October 11, which is  a minimum day with dismissal of 1:00 pm for Kinder and 1:15 pm for 1st-6th grade students.  We hope every takes time to enjoy family and the wonderful area we live in.

Parent Bulletin ~ June 2022

Thank you so much for a wonderful school year! It has been a year like no other, but our Momongas persevered and finished strong! It has been great to be able to welcome families back on campus the past several weeks for joyous events. We had our Book Fair, Family Picnic, Masonic Awards, Matsuri Awards, Gold Rush Day for 4th grade, Water Play Day for 1st grade, Kinder Promotion, and 6th Grade Promotion.  The energy and excitement were awesome.  Our last day of school included a Good Bye Tunnel for our 6th graders, dance and karaoke parties at recess, and fun photo ops! It was a wonderful way to the end the year!

On Friday, all students brought home their report card.  In addition, they brought home a Student Summary document that includes Local Measures assessment data.  Please use the link below to access an explanation of the data included:

2022 CVESD Local Measure Home Letter

The office staff will be working through June 15th.  Please feel free to stop by if you have items to pick up or paperwork to drop off.   The last day to drop off or pick up any items will be June 15th.

Memorial Day Holiday – 5-30-22

On Monday, May 30th our school will be closed in observance of the Memorial Day holiday.  Students will return to school on Tuesday, May 31st for a full day of learning. Our last week of the school year will be a four day week! Summer is so close! As we end the school year, please know we have two promotion events this week.  Parking will be limited and traffic will be increased on both June 1st and 2nd due to these events.  We encourage families to walk to school on both these days. Thank you in advance for your cooperation with this request!

Student Safety and Support

We are all deeply saddened by last week’s senseless tragedy in Uvalde, Texas. At Saburo Muraoka Elementary, we must work together to keep our school community safe.  A starting point is, if you see or hear something, say something.  Discuss with your children that we do not make jokes about harming others. Please remind your children that if they see or hear any threats or concerning things, they should speak up immediately. We ask that families also speak up if they notice any safety concerns so we can address them promptly.  We encourage families to have age-appropriate conversations with your children about what happened in Texas last Tuesday.  Our school counselor and school psychologist, are available to provide support for students on campus, but we know that parents and guardians are a vital part of a child’s education that extends outside of school hours.

We would like to share two resources with you to support these conversations.  The San Diego County Office of Education created a resource for parents and educators to discuss school shootings:

Another great resource is Sandy Hook Promise:

Children and educators should be able to go to school free from violence. As we move forward together, we call on our school community to remember that every action begins with each one of us. We urge each of you to take good care of yourselves and your families and to find ways to connect with one another through compassion. Please know that our school can provide resources to any families who feel they need support.

Together, we can provide the safety and care needed for our children.  We pledge to partner with families to ensure student safety and student well being at our school.  We know you have questions about safety and security at our school. Please know our main priorities are always student safety and learning.  We care deeply about each and every student and have procedures and protocols to keep students and staff safe at all times. We develop a Comprehensive School Safety Plan(CSSP) annually. The plan addresses emergencies, outlines emergency command structure, defines roles and responsibilities, provides detailed explanations of emergency procedures and drills, and identifies potential risks to the school and ways to mitigate those risks. Our Chula Vista Police Department partners review this plan annually and offer ways to improve upon the plan.  If you have questions about our Comprehensive School Safety Plan or are interested in reviewing it, please let us know.

There is a large amount of clothing, water bottles, and lunch bags that have been lost over the course of the year. This week we will be placing all lost and found items outside of the school near the main office before and after school for you to browse for any of your child’s belongings. Any belongings left after the last day of school will be donated. Please take a moment this week to stop by to look for items, if your child has lost items this year.

Image result for parent surveyDon’t forget our Hanover Survey for parents and upper grade students will go live this week on Tuesday, May 31st. The link to the survey will be provided to you via our district communication platform starting Tuesday. Be sure to check your junk and spam folders for the email. Please make every effort to fill out this very important survey. Each year, we analyze the results of the survey.  Your opinions count and we will thoughtfully and purposefully take your ideas to make our school a better place for children. Topics on this important survey include school appearance, finances, technology, instruction, as well as attitudes about safety, transportation, climate and communication. Thank you for taking the time to complete the survey!

Congratulations to our 22-23 PTO Board

We are excited to announce our PTO Board for the new school year! We only received enough nominations to fill 4 positions so we did not need to have the community vote.  Welcome to our PTO leaders:

President: Anna Davenport
Vice President: Mariher Valenzuela
Secretary: Jenny Hernandez
Treasurer: Jason Hall
If you are interested in volunteering for the new year there will be many opportunities to support our PTO events, we encourage you to get involved.  If you are interested in being a parent leader, we have opportunities through our School Site Council or English Learner Advisory Committee.  Please email me: if you are interested in serving.

Residency Verification

Last week you received an email from “Power School” to be able to submit your annual residency requirement. Through this system you will be able to upload your proof of residency documents, complete the residency from and update your contact information by June 3, 2022.  If you do not complete the residency verification process, your child will not be placed on a class list for the new school year. We are a heavily impacted school, so please be sure to secure your child’s placement for the new year.

Verification Documents must have a due date after May 20th, 2022.

As summer break starts next week, please review the upcoming 2022-23 school calendar as you make plans for the next year. Please plan any vacations during our breaks throughout the year. All students return for the 2022-23 school year on July 20, 2022. The first day of school is a minimum day.

Change in Masking Requirements – Please Read

On Wednesday, March 9th, the CVESD Board of Education voted to make a change to the requirement of indoor masking for all on school campuses.  Effective March 21st, indoor masking is now encouraged, but not required for both adults and students.  As face masks are now strongly recommended for students and staff, but not required, We want to remind our students and community members the importance of being kind and respectful towards each other, as some students and staff may decide to continue wearing masks and some may not. No student or staff member should be made to feel uncomfortable for their choice of whether or not to wear a mask now that the guidance has changed.
Masks will still be available, should a staff member or student want one, but we will not be asking students if they want to wear a mask.  If your family is choosing to continue masking and your child forgets their mask, please let your child know that they can ask a staff member for one and we will be able to provide it for them.
As always, the safety of our community is of utmost importance and we will continue to monitor federal, state and local guidelines, adjusting when needed. Thank you for your support as we enter this next chapter of the pandemic.
